Waybound Studio

Waybound Studio

The suite

Waybound Studio is ten parts that build on each other: the idea, the journey, the companions along the way, and the story afterwards. Here are the nine modules that already exist.

Before the trip

The idea and the plan, before you get in the car.

Travel Guide
WB TG

Travel Guide

Tell us what you're craving. We'll suggest where that takes you.

Describe a direction or country and the themes you're drawn to – coast, mountains, forest, history, active, city or calm – and Travel Guide suggests one destination at a time. Like it, skip it, or send it straight into Route Planner.

  • One suggestion at a time, not a long list to sift through
  • Seven themes you can combine freely
  • A choice history builds up as you go
  • One click into Route Planner once the trip feels right
Route Planner
WB RP

Route Planner

The journey, day by day — not just A to B.

The suite's core: daily stages, vehicle profiles, and automatic stops for lunch, rest, fuel, charging and overnight – sourced from Trafikverket, WB Open Places and Google in a deliberate order rather than a single source.

  • Vehicle profiles for diesel, EV and motorhome
  • Trip rules control timing, breaks and search precision
  • Export to Google Maps, My Maps, Excel or your own project file
  • A free tier with no Google key required, live-verified

During the trip

The companions that ride along, not just the ones on your desk.

On The Road
WB OTR

On The Road

Five questions are all you need on the road.

The mobile surface for once you're already moving. Six simple views – Trip, Now, Map, Nearby, Quests, More – with no planning tools in the way. Knows where you are from the route's own geometry, with no extra calls.

  • The Now view shows the next stop and the rest of the day
  • Nearby finds a toilet, coffee or overnight spot close by
  • No login required to follow a shared trip
  • Built for the passenger seat, not the desk

WB AA

Android Auto

The same companion, on the car's own screen.

Reads a trip that's already planned and shows it on the car's built-in display – next stop, my trips, what do you need, what's nearby. Never plans a route, never draws its own map.

  • Sign-in and location permission happen on the phone, never on the car screen
  • Four clear views built to be read in a second, not explored
  • Hands off to the car's own navigation app to actually get you there
  • Code-complete and live-verified
Explorer
WB EX

Explorer

While you queue for the bathroom, the next discovery is waiting.

A light exploration mechanic for the rest stop: drive along a road, pick a turn, and get a real nearby place – with a photo and a description – added to your finds. Not primarily a game; a way to discover your own surroundings.

  • Real places from WB Open Places, never invented
  • Photos and descriptions from Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia, credited
  • No login, nothing saved between sessions
  • Works from anywhere, not only along a planned route
Car Bingo
WB CB

Car Bingo

Get the back seat looking out the window again.

Spotting bingo for the passengers – 16 tiles from a shared board, mark what you see, four in a row is a small win. Every phone generates its own board from the same seed, fully offline.

  • Over 100 tiles across seven categories, from common to rare
  • Create and share your own board with friends
  • No device-to-device sync — works without a connection
  • Follows your phone's light or dark mode automatically
Quests
WB GE

Quests

Honor badges for the detour you took anyway.

A sixth tab in the On The Road app with quests tied to the trip rather than the app itself – a detour, a swim, a local coffee shop. Check it off, no proof required. Honor is the entire mechanism.

  • Twelve quests to start with, an optional short note per check-in
  • No photo, no geofencing – just your own word
  • Badges collect in your profile and are never deleted, only deactivated
  • A deliberate exception in the suite: this curiosity earns a little attention

The foundation underneath

Never seen on its own, but powers stop search across several modules above.

Open Places
WB OP

Open Places

690,000+ open places, with origins you can trace.

A dedicated, open places database that answers where – rest areas, motorhome stops, campsites, viewpoints, toilets and more – built on data whose licence actually permits it. Powers stop search in both Route Planner and Explorer.

  • Built on OpenStreetMap under ODbL, properly credited
  • Honest about gaps: a missing fact usually means "not yet surveyed", not "doesn't exist"
  • Its own map view for anyone who wants to browse the catalogue directly
  • Full coverage across the Nordics, growing coverage across the rest of Europe

After the trip

The suite's last step: the trip seen in the rearview mirror.

Happy Trails
WB HT

Happy Trails

The journey, seen in the rearview mirror — told in your voice.

Once the trip is over: a snapshot of the plan becomes a story, played back with a car driving the route across the map. Pick a voice – The Logbook, The Pirate, or The Bureaucrat – and share it with a single link.

  • No text or photos required from you – just the choices you made along the way
  • Place descriptions quoted from Wikivoyage and Wikipedia, never oversold
  • Shared as a public link, no account needed to read it
  • Can be withdrawn at any time

Three ways to continue, depending on where you are in your journey.
